If you are a regular train traveller, you can cut the cost of the majority of rail fares by at least a third with a Railcard. No matter your age or circumstances, they offer a range of options, including 16-25, Family & Friends, Senior and Two Together Railcards, which you can buy online and use to get discounted fares.
To save money when buying tickets online, if you are using the National Rail Journey Planner, just select the number of and types of Railcards you will be travelling with in the passenger details section and click 'Add' after each selection. Then, when the fares are displayed, just click on one of the prices to see how much money you have saved by using your Railcard.
Group Travel
If you are travelling in a group and there are multiple Railcards held by various members of the party, you are able to select and add more than one Railcard when purchasing the tickets. Just choose the type of Railcard from the drop down list in the 'Number of Railcards and Passengers' section, enter the number of passengers holding that particular Railcard and click 'Add' after each selection.
The discount available to each passenger holding a Railcard will be taken into account when the total cost for the group is calculated. Railcard holders should be aware that they must carry their Railcard with them at all times when making journeys in order to qualify for the discount.
