  The history of Whittards can be traced back to the day in 1886 when founder Walter Whittard, aged 25, established his first shop, in Fleet Street, from where he sold the world's finest quality tea, coffee and cocoa.

  His timing could not have been better as, two years later, imports of tea grown by the British in India reached 86 million lbs. However, he did not simply sell. He also developed his own special blends for his customers, tailoring tastes to their needs.

  The 1890s saw Walter leave Fleet Street for London's 'Street of Tea' - Mincing Lane - and his Whittard Original blends were soon in high demand. World War Two saw the Whittard warehouses destroyed in Blitz attacks, but new premises were established on Fulham Road.
