  The company was founded in 1981 when the husband and wife team of Gary and Catherine Grant opened their first The Entertainer toy shop in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.

  Now, more than 35 years later, the company boasts over 140 stores in the UK and another six abroad, while you will find thousands of toys and games which all the family can enjoy online at thetoyshop.com. Ten years after establishing the company, it had expanded to include three shops, while they moved in to their first proper headquarters in 1994.

Their 30th anniversary year, 2011, proved to be a big one as The Entertainer was named both Toy Retailer of the Year and Online Toy Retailer of the Year, with the latter being won again in 2012.

  The accolades kept coming and 2013 saw them nominated for Omnichannel Retailer of the Year in the World Retail Awards. Not only did 2014 see them crowned Online Toy Retailer of the Year once again, but they also expanded globally by opening stores in Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
