• Company History

  Bunches is a family owned company which began selling flowers from under an umbrella in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, in 1989.

  Erik and Sandra Hoving knew they wanted to do something unique and began asking customers what they wanted in terms of flowers. That is when the idea of postal flowers came to the fore. As a result of this research, they began working with the Post Office in 1990 and sent out five bouquets in the first week.

  Despite this slow start, they have been sending flowers by post ever since, while 2004 saw them begin their online operation. Since 2004, Bunches have not only built their own headquarters, but extended it twice, while numerous awards and a royal visit have followed. Bunches today is run by the next generation of the family, but their values have not changed.

  All bouquets are designed and dispatched by their own team, while they have also always been committed to giving a minimum of 10% of their profit to working with the poor - largely in the developing world but also the UK. They are actively involved in deciding how these funds are managed, while they are also happy to provide practical support too.

• Flower Delivery

  All flower and balloon gifts include free delivery (standard) via Royal Mail first class post, unless otherwise stated, and they should arrive within 1-2 working days, with Bunches usually dispatching flowers two days before the requested delivery date.

  First class deliveries can take place up to 6pm Monday-Friday and up to 1pm on a Saturday. They can also guarantee delivery on the day of your choice, between 8am and 6pm, or before 1pm, though additional charges apply to these options. Items delivered by courier will need to be signed for by the recipient. If you purchase a hamper, it will be sent out via courier for next day delivery (Monday-Friday).

  Regardless of what you are buying, orders must be placed before 4pm Monday-Friday and 11am on Saturday, though they can be placed in advance and stored on Bunches' system until the required date. If you are wanting flowers delivered to a hospital, school or business, they will be handed to the reception or mailing room for internal distribution.

• Ethical Flowers

  Bunches aim to look after the wellbeing of the people who grow their flowers, as well as the environment, while still offering customers beautiful bouquets and plants.

  There are various ways in which they try and achieve this. Many of the Colombian farms which grow their carnations are members of Florverde (Green Flowers), which is a unique voluntary code which aims to improve the quality of life of workers, while at the same time ensuring growers adhere to specific environmental standards.

  The farms will not hire workers under the age of 18 and promise to pay 20% more than the minimum wage, while they also use organic fertilisation methods and make use of sustainable resources in a bid to reduce both water consumption and air pollution. They also dispose of their waste in an environmentally friendly way.

  Bunches aim, where possible, to work only with farms, producers and suppliers who supply ethical flowers and, as a result, are supporters of the Fair Flowers Fair Plants initiative, which monitors such standards. When it comes to helping the environment, all of Bunches' boxes are made from materials which are 100% recyclable.
