Car Insurance

These are uncertain times and now you might be back on the move again as things start to see some normality, it is important to get the right level of cover for your car. Car thefts have seen an increase whilst being parked up, so even if you aren't back out there it is important to ensure your car won't be either.

To help you out we’ve put together a handy guide on how to find a good car insurance deal and what each level of cover means, so you can make sure your car is insured against all possibilities.

How do I get the best car insurance deal?

One of the easiest ways to find a good car insurance is to compare quotes. A comparison site will show you some of the best deals from the UK’s most trusted insurance providers, you can then filter and compare based on price, cover and many other options.

Compare quotes and get cashback with TopCashback Compare, Confused.com and GoCompare.

Although comparing quotes and earning cashback is one of the easiest ways to get a good deal, there are a few other things you could do to help you save money:

  • Increase your voluntary excess.
  • Limit your mileage if you are driving less
  • Consider a telematics policy – also known as black box insurance.

What type of car insurance do I need?

The type of insurance you need depends on the level of cover you want. There are three different types; Third Party, Third Party, Fire and Theft and Fully Comprehensive.

Third party only covers you for injury or damage you cause to other people. This is the minimum level of cover you need to legally drive on UK roads. Third party insurance only covers the cost of compensating other people for injury or damage you cause. It doesn’t provide you with any financial help for injury or repairs to your vehicle.

Third party, fire and theft provides cover if your car is stolen or damaged by fire. This covers the cost of damage or injury to third parties as well as compensating you if your car is damaged due to fire or if it’s stolen. Although, it won’t cover you for the costs of damage to your own car in an accident that was your fault.

Fully comprehensive offers drivers the most complete cover. This level of cover includes all the cover of a third party fire and theft policy, but could also protect you as a driver and may pay out for damage to your car. Depending on the policy you choose it could also include compensation for medical treatment, legal expenses and accidental damage.

It’s worth mentioning that comprehensive insurance isn’t always the most expensive type of car insurance, even though it offers the most cover.

We have a whole host of great car insurance deals for you and if you’re looking for something more specific to your circumstances then we even have cashback offers on young driver car insurance and over 50s car insurance.
