• Company Heritage

  Damart was founded by brothers Paul, Jules and Joseph Despature, who ran a fabrics business in northern France.

  They came up with the idea of designing thermal underwear using a synthetic fibre called chlorofibre. After producing successful test results, they launched Thermolactyl, a unique man-made material which could provide warmth without the need for bulky layers. They published the first Damart mail order catalogue in 1953 and launched in the UK in 1967.
